Built on Grok, Not by xAI: 5 Checks Before You Trust a Third-Party AI Dashboard

Built on Grok, not by xAI: 5 checks before you trust a third-party AI dashboard, with the GrokAI Studio mockup, MMO Maker

A new kind of AI tool shows up in launch feeds almost every week: a dashboard that promises a famous model for a one-time fee. Grok, Gemini, Claude, GPT, pick the name. This week's example is GrokAI Studio, from vendor Seun Ogundele, sold on LaunchPad. Per the vendor, it puts Grok text, image, video and voice models behind one login for a one-time $17, with a commercial license and a 30-day refund. Our review was built from the vendor's own sales page, JV page and JV document, and we have not tested the app hands-on. Whether you buy this one or not, these are the five checks we run on every tool built on someone else's model.

1. Who actually makes it?

Grok is xAI's product. GrokAI Studio is a separate dashboard from an independent vendor, and the vendor's pages do not describe any partnership with xAI. That is common and not wrong in itself. It does mean the dashboard's vendor, not the model's maker, decides how long your access lasts and what happens when costs change.

2. Which models do you actually get?

Write down what you see on the day you log in. In this case the vendor's own pages disagree: the sales page names Grok 4, Grok 4 Heavy, Grok 3, Grok Imagine, Grok Video and Grok Voice, while the JV doc lists Grok 4.7, 4.7 Fast, 4.6, 4.5, Grok 3, Grok Imagine Image 2.0, Grok Imagine Video 1.5 and Grok Voice. Your dashboard is the only list that counts.

3. How is "unlimited" paid for?

Every request to a large model costs the reseller money. A one-time payment for "unlimited Grok 4 Heavy for life" (the sales page says xAI charges $300 a month for Heavy) is a promise about the future, not a feature you can see on day one. So test it the way you would actually use it: your real weekly workload, in week one, not week four.

4. Does the name on the box match?

Much of the vendor material for this launch still says GrokMax, an earlier name for the product, including the demo video and the dashboard graphics. Renames happen. Mismatches across a vendor's own pages are still a reason to read the checkout page slowly and keep your receipt.

5. What happens to your work if you leave?

The vendor's terms say a refund cancels your access and the projects in your dashboard straight away. Export anything you want to keep before you ask for one, and put the refund date in your calendar on the day you buy.

A simple 30-day test

Pick one real project you need this week: a product launch, an ad set, or a month of social posts. Run it through text, images, video and voice in the same week, so you judge the whole workflow instead of one feature. Edit every output before it goes anywhere. By day 25, decide: keep it, or export and refund.

Who this suits, and who it does not

It suits marketers, creators and freelancers who pay for several AI tools and want to test a one-time alternative on real work. It does not suit anyone who needs guaranteed, long-term access to specific Grok models for critical business work, or anyone who would be unhappy to see nine upgrade offers after checkout.

Our full review rates GrokAI Studio 3.9 out of 5 and lists the price, all 9 OTOs, the coupon codes from the vendor's JV doc and the claims we would not repeat: GrokAI Studio review.
